Stay at the 4-H Center!
Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia, the town of Abingdon is known for its artsy vibe, historic charm and its proximity to some of the most spectacular outdoor recreation in the region – including world-renowned trout fishing. Abingdon is a Virginia Historic Landmark and its 20-square block Historic District sets only three miles from the Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center.
Overview
Stay on the scenic grounds of a historic former poor farm at the Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center, established in 1958. Roam the 75-acre grounds at your leisure, including forested trails and an outdoor vespers area in the woods, that is a perfect place to rest peacefully before or after your day’s adventures. Other facilities onsite include a basketball court, covered pavilion, swimming pool, outdoor seating, and historic structures.
Dickenson Conference Center
Guests enjoy comfortable but basic private rooms at the Dickinson Conference Center. Rooms are equipped with adjustable air-conditioning and heat, as well as private bathrooms. Did we mention clean??? It has everything you need for a relaxing retreat!
In the common area of the Dickenson Conference Center, couches and tables allow space for guests to gather for puzzles and games, to read, or recount the day’s adventures. There is also a television in the guest room. A full-sized refrigerator and coffee-maker is also available to guests; as well as WiFi and computer access. Linens and towels are provided.

“New” Lodge
Hostel-style accommodation available for groups large and small, with central air and heating. Open common area room can accommodate multiple configurations and has a 100 person capacity; with access to kitchenette (full-sized refrigerator and sink) and two all-gender single bathrooms with showers.
(4) 24-26 bed bunk-rooms with communal bathrooms
(4) small “private” rooms with 1 twin bed + 1 bunk bed
Each pod sleeps 24-26 people

CabinS
Four (4) cinder block bunk-houses available for groups large and small, with central air and heating. Each cabin contains:
(3) 10-bed + (1) 6-bed bunk rooms with communal bathroom
(1) private room with 3 twin beds, and private bathroom access
Camping
We welcome those interested in making the 4-H Center your home base for Southwest Virginia adventures. Please note: Camping is only available in the winter, spring, and fall (not available during the summer). Bathhouse and kitchenette availability is based on venue/facility rental schedule.
Primitive tent camping: Select a site on our scenic, historic grounds or in the Peak Woods. Fires are only permitted in designated fire rings, and restroom/bathhouse access must be arranged.
RV/Camper hookups are available on a limited basis at our DCC.
